It has been known for a fact that we spend about 1/3 of our life sleeping, meaning that it is highly important of how we perform the process of sleeping, because our entire health depends on it.
For starters, the most important thing is the position we sleep in, as some positions can be beneficial for our overall health while others, not so much.
How to detect if a sleeping position is bad for you:
- Shoulder pain
If you’re experiencing shoulder pain, then avoid sleeping sideways, and try sleeping on your back. Also try using an orthopedic pillow if sleeping on your back is a problem for you at first. Try to draw your legs upwards and set a pillow between your knees and avoid putting your hands under your head.
- Back pain
Back pain is usually the result of poor quality mattress. Try changing your mattress or placing a pillow under your knees to posture the spine in a better position and reduce the tendons tension.
- Neck pain
If neck pain is constantly bothering you, then take a pillow and place both of your hands with it under your head. Make sure the pillow is flat. However if you’re sleeping on your stomach, get a thinner pillow and try to switch positions in order to avoid more pain.
- Problems falling asleep
A large number of people are experiencing this problem nowadays as a result of using phones and watching TV before going to bed, as well as using caffeine, alcohol or energetic drinks and teas. You also need to mind the room temperature and make sure it is ideal (somewhere between 20-22 degrees Celsius.
- Problems waking up
If waking up is one of the hardest things for you, try to set a routine cycle and wake up at the same time every day, even in the weekends.
If you’re snoring like a chainsaw, avoid sleeping on your stomach as you’re interrupting the normal breathing process. Also use harder pillows.
- Leg pain
Spasms and cramps in the leg can be best prevented by stretching your legs and tightening the muscles.
- Leg pain and cramps and heartburn
If you’re constantly suffering from heartburn, try sleeping on the left side and place your head on a higher pillow.
